Give/Get – Girls Out Loud

This is Not About Money

By Valerie McIntyre

This Saturday, 15th June, C3London is putting on our first woman’s event. Because I am a woman I am putting it on J Simon refused the role. Now, I know there are women out there who are not fans of the “ladies event.” Too girly, too touchy feely, too… You know what I mean. So, when we started thinking about ours I was intent on making it a little more serious. That’s why our marketing materials feature – a pink ladies stiletto. The girl spills out, no matter what! LOL.

We have a wonderful line up of speakers, all except one, from our own church. Homegrown, that’s the way I like it. Our featured speaker is from United Life church in Sutton. Jillian Conrathe, an ex-ballerina and heroic mother of 4 boys is speaking on “Freedom,” an important topic for women as so many of us struggle with self-esteem issues. Maybe all of us do, if we’re honest. And this brings me to my title – give/get. When I asked Jillian to speak it was for one important reason, I know she is going to GIVE something that so many of us need. When we first met over lunch I was overwhelmed by her presence. She’s a slightly reserved, beautiful English woman, so it wasn’t her personality that captured me – though she is a fun girl to be around. She brings healing and peace wherever she goes. Jillian is a giver. She gives.

So often we come to conferences, events, even Sunday mornings with the question: “what are we going to get today?” But giving can be so much more powerful than getting. Giving provides for others, giving creates bridges, giving can change lives. We’ve always heard that it is better to give than to receive. In fact it is, because in the giving we receive.

My one hope for Saturday is that a group of women come out to an event with the desire to “give” on their hearts. Together, we can build each other up, encourage each other in our journey, share each other’s joys and pain. You don’t have to give if you don’t want to, but it’s a much more satisfying state of being. And you know what, you always walk away with more than you gave. Always.

He gave so that we might live. If it’s good enough for Christ, it’s good enough for me. Hope to see you Saturday!

Speakers include: Kelly Taylor, Jo Ward, Rosemary Williams and Karen Blake
